Mikel Arteta left absolutely furious with one of Arsenal player after second-half moment in Everton win as video reveals all he said
Arsenal may have beaten Everton overnight, but Mikel Arteta was clearly not entirely happy with his side’s performance with one clip showing the Gunners boss losing his rag with Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
And it did not take the Gunners long to double their lead, with Bukayo Saka getting on the scoresheet.
Arteta made a number of changes at the break. And one of those to be introduced was Maitland-Niles. Of course, the academy graduate is looking to impress after an underwhelming loan at Roma during the second-half of last season.
Unfortunately, there was one moment where the 24-year-old seemed to leave his manager furious on the touchline.
Maitland-Niles – who was used in midfield – attempted to hit a mid-range pass out to the left to Granit Xhaka. However, he got the ball all wrong, and the pass fizzed out for a throw-in, with Xhaka almost immediately giving up on trying to keep possession.
Xhaka applauded the idea. However, the camera then cut to Arteta, who seemed livid that possession was given away so cheaply.
Maitland-Niles angers Arteta with pass in Arsenal win
Maitland-Niles is one player who arguably needs a big pre-season. He has lost his way somewhat in the last few years. And it seems that his development is in danger of stagnating.
Arsenal need a bigger squad ahead of this season and their Europa League return. And with that, Maitland-Niles could have a massive opportunity.
Obviously, Arteta is not going to hold one pass in a friendly against him for too long. But annoying the boss is certainly not going to help Maitland-Niles’ cause either.
